POLICY 

Authority OW Directives: Dir. 7.1 

Oxygen is not an item of Discretionary Benefits; however, if oxygen is a vital and medical necessity, participants can qualify for 100% coverage through the Home Oxygen Program. The participant must meet the needs testing of the program and must have a doctor’s prescription to qualify.
 

PROCEDURE

The participant has their doctor and vendor complete a Home Oxygen Program application form. If your doctor does not already have copies of this form, he or she can contact the program at:

The following are not covered through this program.  Those who:

  • are in a chronic or acute care hospital, or
  • need oxygen because of a work-related injury (contact the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board, formerly Compensation Board) or
  • qualify for Department of Veteran Affairs Group A benefits, or
  • do not meet the medical criteria.
