Children's Services Effective Date: January 1, 2010
Topic: Eligibility Criteria for Parents Replaces:
Subject: Ontario Works Policy No. F.9.7.

POLICY

Ontario Works Participants are eligible for child care subsidy to assist them with opportunities to support their skill development, and to assist with the growth and socialization of their children in preparation for school.

PROCEDURE

Licensed Child Care

Ontario Works Participants will be responsible for finding an available space at an approved licensed child care centre.  A referral is no longer required by a third party agency.  Ontario Works Participants, who have secured a space for their children, will contact the Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB office for an appointment to apply, see policy F.8.1 of the Child Care Policy Manual.

Ontario Works Participants will be asked to provide a copy of any court orders for custody and/or support and a copy of their most recent Notice of Assessment (NOA). However, approval for child care subsidy may still be made if the client does not provide the NOA.

The Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB will pay, directly to the day care, the per diem rate for each approved day billed by the licensed child care centre.

Unlicensed Child Care (Informal)

All requests for unlicensed child care will be directed to the Ontario Works case manager.
