Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board (DSB) is looking for a self-motivated & energetic individual to join our industry-leading organization which works towards the delivery of high-quality services and programs to the residents of Manitoulin-Sudbury districts. Created by the provincial government, the DSB is responsible for overseeing and managing a range of services divested to the municipal order of government, including Ontario Works, Community Housing, Paramedic Services (Land Ambulance), Non-Urgent Patient Transportation, and Early Learning and Child Care Services.

Our Team
The Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board is comprised of 14 board members and has been in existence for 25 years. With three main departments, Integrated Human Services, Paramedic Services, and Administration, and over 200 employees, we service a large geographical area totaling 45,000 square km. Our organization is responsible for the development and execution of annual budgets exceeding $50 million. The Opportunity
We are currently looking for a driven individual to join our team as a Communication Officer/Executive Assistant within our Administration Department in Espanola, Ontario.
In this position, you will provide a broad range of administrative and technical support to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Management Team, and the Board of Directors. The administrative services are provided in accordance with all applicable Municipal, Provincial, and Federal legislation, and Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB policy. The Communications Officer / Executive Assistant provides support and communications of a confidential nature to the CAO, and the members of the Board and will develop and ensure the success of an organizational strategic communications plan that communicates to employees, clients, the public, and regional partners.
The Communications Officer / Executive Assistant is responsible for developing internal and external communication strategies to enhance service development and delivery by creating, editing, and publishing media releases, newsletters, and other organizational communications both internal and external; as well as organize political and other events and respond to public inquiries. The Communications Officer / Executive Assistant will coordinate media relations and communicate with the public at large via the Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB’s website, social media, and other forms of communication. Working collaboratively with the CAO and leadership team to promote a positive client experience, the Communications Officer / Executive Assistant is responsible for responding to compliments, inquiries, and complaints. Being able to think creatively, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the Communication Officer will work in a manner that truly integrates the organization’s strategic messaging while adhering to the accuracy and integrity of information.
Qualifications and Specific Skills:
Education: Completion of post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field. Education in Business would be considered an asset.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in a communications /administration role, municipal experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms is required.

- Excellent interpersonal and public relations communication skills.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills with exceptional writing and editorial abilities. Thorough understanding and application of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Strong working knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulations necessary to carry out the functions of the job, including but not limited to various privacy legislation, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, etc.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License with insured vehicle for employment-related use.
- Ability to travel across the district as required.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.

Annual Salary Range: $69,456 to $81,253
