Created by the provincial government, the DSB is responsible for overseeing and managing a range of services divested to the municipal order of government, including Ontario Works, Community Housing, Paramedic Services (Land Ambulance), Non-Urgent Patient Transportation, and Early Learning and Child Care Services.

Our Team
The Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board is comprised of 14 board members and has been in existence for 25 years. With three main departments, Integrated Human Services, Paramedic Services, and Administration, and over 200 employees, we service a large geographical area totaling 45,000 square km. Our organization is responsible for the development and execution of annual budgets exceeding $50 million. The Opportunity
We are currently looking for a driven individual to join our team as a Personal Support Worker. The position will be in Espanola within our Non-Urgent Patient Transportation Service.
The Personal Support Worker (PSW) will actively participate in the mobility needs of patients while providing non-urgent transportation to in-patients of medical facilities. Most of the patient transportation will be from one medical facility to another. Being responsible for all aspects of transportation the PSW will operate a stretcher-capable transport vehicle and multiple mobility devices, utilizing a variety of travel routes to timely, efficiently, and safely arrive at pick-up locations and destinations. The PSW will assist medical escorts during the transfer where applicable, monitor patients, and provide basic emergency care interventions should the need arise while awaiting the response of an ambulance. The PSW will also be responsible for documenting all pertinent information related to the patient transfer and other dealings through the course of their day to assess the effectiveness of this service.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain effective communication, coordination, and working relations with all stakeholders.
- Physically able to perform two-person lifts and transfers, in a safe, smooth controlled manner, of patients utilizing appropriate patient lifting equipment and techniques.
- Maintain on-going patient care during transportation to and from receiving/sending facilities.
- Maintain and record complete patient and operational documentation.
- Assess patients including vital signs and report abnormal findings to sending and/or receiving facility.
- Maintain dignity and patient confidentiality during every encounter.
- Restock and clean the vehicle and equipment as required.
- Complete checklists, encompassing vehicle readiness, vehicle and equipment sanitation, equipment deficiencies, etc. to ensure quality assurance.
- Practice proper hand hygiene and utilize personal protective equipment as required during all patient encounters in compliance with all workplace safety and infection control standards.
- Represent the DSB in a professional and courteous manner and in accordance with the Policy and Procedure manual.
- Liaise with the on-duty Paramedic Superintendent to optimize patient movements and to report any alterations that may impact operations.
- Complete incident reports and or vehicle collision reports, as per Policies and Procedures.
- Stock vehicles to ensure that material resources are in place as per Policies and Procedures.
Education:
- Ontario Personal Support Worker College Certificate
Qualifications and Specific Skills
- Current 3-year certification in Standard First Aid, CPR Level C and AED
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License
- Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector
- Be free of any communicable diseases
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
- Knowledge of technological systems including computers, tablets, fax machines, internet, and email.
- Understanding of basic word processing software (Microsoft Word)

Salary: $22.48/hour (up to 40 hours per week)
