A new building project in Espanola, owned and operated by the Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board, is moving along with work on the roof taking place the first week of September. The affordable housing project is a single-level, 10-unit building on a one-acre corner lot on the Queensway at Mead Blvd. These units will be directed towards at-risk individuals regardless of age.

There is a long waitlist for affordable housing in the area and this new housing project of 10 one-bedroom units will benefit local people struggling to find an affordable place to live. The work began in March 2024 with the clearing of the land and there has been steady progress. There is no confirmation as yet to the completion date.
